Pennsylvania Casinos Have Record Month For Slots In March

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa (CBS) -- Pennsylvania casinos set a state record for slots revenue in March.

The $233-million dollars in gross slots revenue for March was the highest for any month since the state's tenth full-size casino opened, or any month since legalized gaming began in Pennsylvania.

The March figure, which is $15-million above the previous monthly high notched last July, does include half-million dollars in revenue generated by two "test" nights and first day of public operation at the state's first smaller "resort" casino in Valley Forge.

But Gaming Control Board spokesman Richard McGarvey says there were other factors.

"We've also seen better weather so far this year," said McGarvey. "Especially in March, and March had five Saturdays and Fridays, compared to 2011, when there was four."

In March, Parx continued to have the highest slots revenues of any casino while SugarHouse again notched the biggest percentage gain compared to same month one year before.
