Penndot Worker Charged In Driver's License Scheme

MALVERN, Pa. (AP) — A PennDOT supervisor has been charged in an alleged scheme to issue bogus driver's licenses to fugitives.

State police say 43-year-old Khalif Abdullah Ali of Philadelphia helped fugitives obtain new identities to avoid apprehension.

Ali was a supervisor in the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Malvern office in Chester County between August 2010 and March 2011 when state police say he supplied the licenses.

Police said Thursday that licenses were issued to imposters who swiped the identities of real people.

Ali faces felony charges of tampering with public records, conspiracy to commit identity theft, hindering apprehension and computer trespass. He was sent to Chester County Prison on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.

It's not clear whether Ali has an attorney.
