Pat Burrell To Retire As A Philadelphia Phillie
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Pat Burrell will officially retire as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies, the team announced Thursday.
Burrell, 35 years old, will sign a one-day minor league contract with the Phillies. The team will honor him prior to their May 19th game against the Red Sox, where he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
In nine major league seasons with the Phillies, Burrell hit 251 home runs, had 827 RBI's, and had 518 extra-base hits. Burrell's last hit as a Phillie was a double against the Tampa Bay Rays in the decisive game five of the 2008 World Series.
