"Operation Clean Sweep" nets over 100 arrests, disrupts drugs flowing from Philadelphia to suburbs, Pa. AG says
Law enforcement made more than 100 arrests and seized street narcotics worth more than $365,000 in a two-month operation disrupting the flow of illegal drugs coming from Philadelphia to its surrounding counties, the Pennsylvania attorney general and local district attorneys said Monday.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday was back in the Philly area Monday to detail what law enforcement called "Operation Clean Sweep," a two-month operation that took place in September and October in the city and its collar counties.
"If it's not in your town today, it could be tomorrow," Sunday said. "That's how quickly fentanyl and other deadly narcotics can move, and that's why they are such a threat to every single community throughout the commonwealth."
Sunday was joined by district attorneys from Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery counties, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Pedro Rosario and other local law enforcement leaders in Norristown.
Sunday and local law enforcement leaders discussed "Operation Clean Sweep," which they say is a partnership within the southeastern Pennsylvania region to "stop drug trafficking from Kensington to surrounding counties." They announced over 100 arrests in the operation, which was created to curb drug trafficking from Kensington to the surrounding counties.
"This collaborative drug interdiction effort is a game changer in identifying drug dealers who are dealing poisons to our counties and into the literal hands of our loved ones," Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said.
Twelve illegal guns were also seized during the two-month sting, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said among the drugs seized were fentanyl and heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine, oxycodone, suboxone and Xanax, among others.
Monday's announcement came days after Sunday's announcement of the seizure of over 50 million doses of fentanyl so far in 2025.
Sunday highlighted two drug busts this year during a press conference last week. In September, law enforcement seized 2.7 million fentanyl doses in Northeast Philadelphia, and in May, more than 9 million doses were seized, and seven arrests were made in North Philly.
The Pennsylvania AG said law enforcement has already seized more fentanyl this year than they did in 2024.
Two weeks ago, the FBI announced the takedown of one of Kensington's largest drug trafficking gangs, the Weymouth Street Drug Trafficking Organization. Federal prosecutors indicted 33 people involved in the drug gang, including two of its leaders, Jose Antonio Morales Nieves and Ramon Roman-Montanez.
