Nutter Wants Income Guidelines Maintained for PHA Tenants
Mayor Nutter says the PHA board needs to make a public accounting of sexual misconduct allegations against PHA chief Carl Greene. And the mayor is voicing concern about reports that a PHA tenant has been earning six figures at a non-profit under contract to Greene.
KYW's Mike Dunn reports that Mayor Nutter said he's bothered by reports in the Daily News that a PHA tenant, Asia Coney, is earning more than one-hundred thousand dollars a year as head of a non-profit agency under contract to Carl Greene and the PHA:
"Public housing ultimately is for poor people, people in dire circumstances. If you're making 100-thousand dollars, it seems to me you should be able to move on."
The mayor wants to see a policy that someone earning that much would have to give up their public housing. A PHA spokesman says the current policy is set by Washington. It says you must meet low-income guidelines to get into public housing, but once in, there's no limit on how much you can earn.
