Norristown Unveils New Mural In Art District

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - The borough of Norristown has taken the wraps off a mural that's designed to be the gateway to the town's arts district.

Coming across the bridge from Bridgeport, drivers and walkers will be greeted by the mural on the side of a building at the intersection of DeKalb and Lafayette.

The mural was made possible by an economic development grant secured by State Senator Daylin Leach who says he was jealous of the more than three thousand murals in the city of Philadelphia and wanted to bring one to the county seat.

"These are the sort of things that make people feel good every day as they walk by them," Leach said. "They give the community a little bit of a sense of identity that maybe they didn't have before."

The mural's designer Matthew Bush says he wanted to reflect the character of the industry and the artistic soul of Norristown. Leach says the best thing about art is everyone interprets it their own way. He says it's the sun rising over Norristown signaling hope for a new day.
