Boil water advisory lifted for customers in Norristown and Plymouth Township

A boil water advisory for residents in parts of Norristown and Plymouth Township in Montgomery County has been lifted as of Wednesday, July 8.

Pennsylvania American Water issued the order for more than 1,000 customers earlier this week because of an equipment failure and loss of pressure.

In an update, PAW said samples were collected on July 6 and 7, and received "acceptable test results" on July 8. "We are pleased to report that the issue has been resolved," the company said. 

The map below outlines where the advisory was issued, which included areas around Fairfield Road, Jefferson Street, Volpe Road, Penn Road, Regatta Circle, Plymouth Boulevard, Boyer Boulevard, Northview Boulevard and the Plymouth Flats Apartments.

The alert was issued after PAW said there was a "loss of positive pressure in the distribution system due to an equipment failure." According to the company, a loss of positive pressure signals conditions that could allow contaminants to enter its water distribution system "through backflow by back pressure or back siphonage."

Residents were urged to use bottled or boiled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, food prep and teeth brushing.
