NJ Residents Reminded To Recycle Old Electronic Devices
TRENTON, NJ (CBS) – Residents in New Jersey are being reminded to recycle their old electronics rather than throw them away.
With the holidays comes the gifting of new gadgets to replace old or outdated models, and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEPT) is reiterating that devices such as computers, TVs, e-book readers, printers and monitors must be taken to designated recycling points as mandated by law.
Officials also say that the manufacturers of such devices now fund the collection of the e-waste so that it's free to consumers.
According to DEP, devices including computers and TVs contain potentially hazardous materials such as lead, mercury and nickel.
Cell phones, DVD players, VCRs and game consoles are not required to be recycled.
