NJ Police Officer Injured In Hit-and-Run, Georgia Man Charged

OAKLYN, NJ (CBS) --  Camden County officials say a 49-year-old man has been charged in connection to a hit-and-run that injured an Oaklyn police officer. It happened before 11 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of White Horse Pike and West Clinton Avenue.  The officer was directing traffic when he was struck. Police say the driver fled the scene but what detained after the injured officer broadcast a description of the suspect.

He has been identified as Leon A. Williams of Dacula, Georgia.  The officer was treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden and was released.

Williams has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer as well as assault by auto and leaving an injured victim.  He was remanded to county jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
