NJ Police Hunt For Bold Burglar Who Strikes While People Are Sleeping

HADDONFIELD, N.J. (CBS) -- A rash of home break-ins are under investigation in Haddonfield.

Authorities say they're looking for a bold burglary suspect who hit several homes while people were inside sleeping.

Talk of a serial burglar is a hot but rather unwanted topic in Haddonfield. Home to as vibrant a main street as you'll find in America- and quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods.

"I think people do have a false sense of security at times and people let their guard down," Det. Sgt. Stephen Camiscioli tells Eyewitness News.

Police say sometime between midnight and 4 am, a burglar entered three homes and tried going into four more.

The ones he got in had unlocked doors and windows- the four he tried to break into were locked, so he left.

"They're entering and leaving and they don't discover it until the morning until they come down to go to work and discover their stuff missing, like they're cell phone and in some cases they found the door ajar," Camiscioli said.

In each case, the residents were in bed and didn't know an intruder was in their house.
