NJ Man Gets Jail Term After Driving With Victim In Windshield
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A man who struck a New Jersey pedestrian and drove with the victim lodged in the vehicle's windshield has been sentenced to seven years in jail.
Thirty-three-year-old Marcos Ortega was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide in the death of 61-year-old Kenneth Moeller, of Lanoka Harbor, in November.
Ortega, of Little Egg Harbor, will also serve three years of supervised release.
Ortega struck Moeller on a highway shoulder in Ocean Township and then continued driving for about 1 1/2 miles before he was stopped by police.
Prosecutors say a township police officer responding to reports of an erratic driver saw what appeared to be a person lying on the hood of a vehicle. The officer stopped the vehicle and, as he approached it, saw the victim lodged halfway through the windshield.
