Montgomery County K9's Get New And Improved Beds

by Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- They work like dogs, now they have a place to rest.

Three K9's with the Montgomery County Sheriff's department, and one with the Norristown police, got some high-tech dog beds.

"Large dogs are prone to conditions like hip dysplasia and arthritis, so we build beds that take all the pressure from their joints and keep it off of the floor," said Eric Shannon, founder of King of Prussia based Big Barker, the maker of custom beds.

They were donated by Finding Shelter Animal Rescue, and during a demonstration, Sheriff's department K-9 Artus settled right in.

"To see them comfortable and not really want to get up, that's the best part of it. They really look happy, and they really look comfortable, and I think they're going to be happy for years to come," said Finding Shelter President Grace Herbert.

The K-9's generally work until they're 7-10 years old, and their handlers hope the new beds extend those years.
