Montco Commissioner Hoeffel Wants Police Documents In Skyler Case Released
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - A Montgomery County commissioner is calling on law enforcement officials to release the initial report from Souderton, Pa. police concerning their contact last month with alleged child killer James Troutman (see related stories).
Commissioner Joe Hoeffel is calling for public disclosure of the initial police report from last month's encounter between Troutman and nine-year-old Skyler Kauffman.
Based on reports, Hoeffel says he believes there may be some discrepancies between that report and the court documents filed this week in connection with Kauffman's murder.
"If the affidavit of probable cause is correct," Hoeffel said today, "this man should have been charged a month ago. If the initial police report is correct, according to the reports about it, the affidavit of probable cause this week has been exaggerated."
Either way, Hoeffel says, something appears to be amiss and should be addressed.
DA Risa Ferman says under the rules of professional conduct it would be inappropriate for her to publicly release police reports in a homicide investigation. She says that could compromise their case against Troutman, which she called "unacceptable."
