Medics Impromptu Plan Helps Locate Man In Need Of Medical Help In Delaware County
DELAWARE COUNTY (CBS) -- An impromptu plan by emergency personnel in Delaware County helped locate a man in need of medical help on Friday.
Officials say a man suffering from dementia fell in his Chester City home Friday and called 9-1-1 for help, but was unable to tell the dispatcher where he was.
Michael McGinley was the 9-1-1 dispatcher and said he tried to bring the man comfort.
"I reassured him the best I can and I told him initially we were going to get him help no matter what we had to do."
GPS and cell phone data were used to find the general area, but the exact location was not detected.
Sirens from police and EMS vehicles were sounded and the dispatcher on the other end of the phone was able to guide responders based on the loudness of the siren's sound.
Then police and EMS personnel went knocking on doors, eventually finding the victims home. The victim was able to communicate, he heard them knocking at his door. Responders were informed and they forced their way into his home.
The man received medical attention and is doing well.
