Mayor Michael Nutter Issues Statement On Passing Of Beau Biden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor Michael Nutter issued the following statement regarding the death of Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden:
'I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Beau Biden this past weekend. He was an extraordinary man – he served the City of Philadelphia as a prosecutor, the United States of America during the Iraq War and the state of Delaware as attorney general. The Biden family believes in public service and Beau was proud to follow in his father's footsteps and dedicate his professional life to serving others.
He was a fierce defender of the defenseless with a love for the law. That love was only eclipsed by his commitment to his family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Hallie, and children, Natalie and Hunter, his father and stepmother, Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, his brother and sister and their families, and the many friends, extended family and people who benefited from his great light in the world.
Beau Biden truly was a man for others and he will be missed.'
Mayor Nutter ordered that the City of Philadelphia flag be flown at half mast beginning today through sunset the day of the funeral.
Biden died on Saturday almost two years after he was first diagnosed at the age of 46.
