Man Falls 70 Feet At Port Of Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del., (CBS) – A 23-year-old man was hospitalized after falling 70 feet into a cargo hold of a ship at the Port of Wilmington Thursday.

The incident happened at about 3:58 p.m. along Christiana Avenue.

Wilmington Fire Department officials say the man fell in a cargo hold of a ship that was being unloaded at the Port.  A 2,000 pound coil of wire had reportedly rolled onto his chest.

Officials say the coil had been removed before the fire department arrived.

Rescue crews immobilized the man and raised him from the cargo hold by the ship's crane.

He was flown to Christiana Trauma Center.  His condition is unknown.
