Man Indicted On Murder Charge In Killing At The Walk In Atlantic City

ATLANTIC COUNTY, N.J. (CBS)—A Somers Point man was indicted on murder charges Wednesday in connection to the killing of a man back in September inside a store at "The Walk" in Atlantic City.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says Luis A. Maisonet, 55, of Somers Point, opened fire on Christopher Romero, 26, of Absecon, on September 1 inside the Zumiez store.

Maisonet then left the scene, pointed the handgun at another person before shooting himself inside the White House Black Market store.

Both Maisonet and Romero were transported to the hospital. Romero later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation reveals the shooting involved a domestic-related matter.

There was no ongoing threat to the public at the time of the incident.

Maisonet is being charges with murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession weapon without first obtaining a permit, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and possession of weapon by a person not authorized to possess a weapon.

A conviction for murder carries a potential sentence 30 years to life.

Maisonet remains held on $1 million bail at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
