Lots of Options In Phillies Bullpen
CLEARWATER, Fla. (CBS) - Despite the five outstanding starters (see related story), you can't overlook the Phillies' bullpen this season.
Righthander Scott Mathieson is hoping to be in the mix for a spot.
"That's definitely my goal," he said on Wednesday. "I won't be satisfied if I go back to Triple-A. For me, I want to prove I can compete and help out at the big-league level."
Mathieson's problem has been injuries the last few years, but he says right now he is good.
"Two Tommy Johns, and then I had a third elbow surgery as well," he recounts. "But that's all in the past -- that was two years ago. I've been healthy for the last two years, and now I want to make an impact."
Mathieson pitched in just two games for the Phillies last season. He went 3-6 with 26 saves for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
