Limerick Nuclear Plant Shutdown After Electrical Issue
LIMERICK, Pa. (CBS) – The nuclear power plant in Limerick has been shut down after an electrical malfunction.
The plant experienced the malfunction, which led to a shutdown of the reactor, around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
Exelon declared the shutdown an "Unusual Event," the lowest of four levels of emergency classification used by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
The NRC is monitoring the shutdown, and inspectors have been assigned to gather information. There do not appear to be any complications at this time.
