KYW Flashback: Explosions Rattle Philadelphia Over The Years
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Thirty-six years ago the mid-day doldrums were shattered in the Tacony section of the city when two street shaking blasts tore through three row homes.
Margaret Street caved in. Seven people died, another 19 were injured.
KYW reporters were there as the explosion revealed future disasters, just waiting to happen as eroding soil was causing aging gas mains to sag and crack.
It happened again in Kensington just six years later. Three more would die.
KYW chronicled the parade of tragedy to follow in West Conshohocken, Lambertville and New Hope. To this day, Philadelphia is still grappling with an ominous killer that just won't go away.
