Kimmel Center Offers Family Friendly Mummers Celebration

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you want to mark the new year in a less wild environment, the Kimmel Center's annual family friendly Mummers celebration is the place to be.
"You get to drink hot chocolate, watch people," 4-year-old Gerold told KYW Newsradio.
Gerold from Burlington, New Jersey, knew exactly what he wanted to do and why. "I like people walking in the parade. It looks funny."
Beth from Ardmore says her family takes the train into town to visit the Kimmel Center every New Year's Day.
"It's a great place for the kids because you don't have to be out in the mix of it all, but they have free face painting, balloon twisting, hot chocolate...it's a wonderful event every year," she said.
Her 7-year-old daughter Addy got to choose the colors for the butterfly painted on her face- purple and blue. "...and it has a jewel on the top and it has pretty big wings," she explained.
Kind of like the costumes on the Mummers outside on Broad Street.
The Kimmel Center event runs until 6 p.m. tonight.
