Infant Injured In Delaware Car Crash

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) — Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash near Georgetown that seriously injured a three-month-old boy.

Authorities say 19-year-old Laura Cruz of Bridgeville was driving on Shiloh Church Road about 9:40 a.m. Sunday when her Nissan Sentra drifted into the oncoming lane. Officers say Cruz overcorrected, causing the car to go off the road and hit a tree before overturning and striking a fence.

Cruz, who was not properly restrained, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Her infant son, who was not properly restrained in a car seat not properly affixed to the car, was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over. He was airlifted to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, where he was admitted in stable condition.

Troopers say charges are pending.
