Hyundai Dealers Donate $100,000 To Children's Hospital For Cancer Research
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is getting a significant gift to help fund its research of pediatric cancer.
On behalf of Hyundai Motor America, Peter DiPersia, general manager of the car company's eastern region, presented a check for $100,000 to Children's Hospital for the "Hope on Wheels" program.
"Hope on Wheels is a united effort of all the Hyundai dealers across the country and Hyundai Motor America to raise money and awareness and to fund research for pediatric cancer," DiPersia said.
He says they raise the money by donating a small percentage of funds from the cars they sell to this cause.
Lisa Wray (right), a fellow in pediatric oncology at CHOP, says she's thankful for the past seven years of donations from Hyundai.
"I've been funded by the Hyundai program for the past two years," she told KYW Newsradio. "What this has allowed is for me to start research into pediatric leukemia. We're basically at the point now where we've gone through a very large clinical trial, a set of samples, and that's going to continue until we get some results."
