Honor Student Who Claims Genitals Manhandled During Police Patdown Reaches Agreement On Criminal Charges

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The lawyer for the 16-year-old honor student who claims a female cop manhandled his genitals during a police patdown in January says they've reached an agreement with the Philadelphia District Attorney's office.

For months, Mathematics Civics and Sciences Charter School student Darrin Manning faced aggravated assault, simple assault and other charges in connection with a January 7th pat down. But his attorney William Buckman says they've hammered out the charges with the DA's office.

"The juvenile charges against him have been resolved," he says, "because he's a juvenile, I can't give you any details of that. But both sides are satisfied with the results."

Manning underwent emergency surgery on his genitals back in January. Medical records showed doctors discovered a blot clot near his testicle during the procedure. Buckman says a civil law suit could be forthcoming.

"We're still in the evaluation stage," he says.

The DA's office declined to comment on the case.
