Herb Magee Grateful For Selection To Basketball Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Newly minted basketball Hall of Famer Herb Magee returned to Philadelphia University this afternoon, to the accolades of students and staffers (see previous story).

Back on campus, Magee shared with reporters that he told the Hall of Fame folks he was proud of them for including a Division II coach in an honor most people associate with the NBA.

"What I am is a basketball coach," he said. "That's what I am.  And I think I'm proud of the Hall of Fame for saying, 'Okay, we recognize the fact that this guy's a coach and he's done a good job over the years.' "

Good job is an understatement.  Magee has won 922 games, making him the all-time NCAA wins leader.  University president Dr. Stephen Spinelli says Magee is a true ambassador:

"Herb is famous as a basketball coach.  He should be more famous as an educator.  The philosophy of Philadelphia University is to win in everything we do," Spinelli says.

Magee says being a hall of famer won't change him: he joked that he'll still be a 12-handicap in golf.
