Hear Philly: The Shore Thing - Food, Wine and All-Around Family Fun

By Andrew Kramer

CAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J. (CBS) - From Sea Isle City to Cape May, food is a huge part of the post-Labor Day weeks down the shore.

In fact, September 11th marks the start of Sea Isle's second Food Truck Festival of the year, as Mayor Lenny Desiderio explains:

"It's a great three-day festival with music, great food and other surprises, entertainment, etc."

As far as examples of some of the food people will get to try:

"The cheesesteaks and the grilled cheese, french fries and waffle fries and chicken cutlet sandwiches with broccoli rabe, etc. Then you have a waffle truck that will be there - ice cream, waffle, something like that. You have some really gourmet trucks there - you have a Mexican truck, some other ethnic groups."

That same weekend, Cape May's 19th annual Food and Wine Celebration kicks off.

"This is all about local food, local wine, local beers," explains Susan Krysiak with the Cape May Mid-Atlantic Center.

She says there's plenty going on during the ten-day event:

"We have a number of different events like grape picking, where you can go out into the vineyard and pick grapes. We have dinners, we have cheese tastings, we have a new event this year called the Harvest Brew Fest -- highlighting local beer, local wine, local foods. We're doing a champagne jazz brunch."

Another event -- taking place the first Saturday of the Food and Wine Celebration -- is a special feast for chocolate lovers:

"This is really designed for anyone who loves chocolate," Krysiak says. "It's seven courses of chocolate prepared by a chef with him explaining each course and telling you a little about how he made it, so if you love chocolate it's really neat. They have a chocolate dipping fountain that's included."

And you can bet there'll be plenty of food among many other activities at Sea Isle's Fall Family Funfest as Katherine Custer - the Director of Community Services for Sea Isle -- explains:

"We'll have over 400 vendors along our promenade, free family activities at Excursion Park, we'll have live music at the Band Shell and our food courts is always a big hit. And then on Sunday we'll have our antique auto show, we'll have more live music, free trolley tours around Sea Isle City, and award ceremony, and then we'll wrap up the whole weekend with an antique auto show parade."

The festival takes place Sept 19th and 20th.
