Hamels Looks To End Phils Skid Vs. Braves
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There are many reasons why the Phillies are where they are this season. One of them is their inability to beat the Atlanta Braves.
The Phillies are just 2-8 against their division rivals and last night's 6-1 defeat was their seventh straight to the Braves.
They will look to end this trend behind their ace Cole Hamels. The left-hander is 11-6 this season with a 3.34 ERA, but he 0-1 in two starts against Atlanta with a 4.09 ERA.
Atlanta goes with left-hander Mike Minor, who is just 6-7 with a 5.01 ERA here in 2012. But he baffled the Phillies in his last start against them - going eight innings and allowing just a run on four hits back on July 28th. Braves won that game 2-1.
The Phillies are 49-60 on the season and they would need to go 53-0 the rest of the way to match last year's record of 102-60.
KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Kevin McAlpin of the Braves Radio Network, to get a scout on Atlanta and some insight into why they own the Phillies here in 2012.
