Guilty Verdict in 'Black Madam' Buttocks Enhancement Death Case

By Tony Hanson

A Philadelphia jury today returned a guilty verdict on all four counts against Padge Victoria Windslowe, a transgender woman who, despite lack of formal medical training, performed buttocks enhancement procedures in hotel rooms by injecting clients with industrial-grade silicone.

One woman died and another was hospitalized as a result of the procedures.

Windslowe, 45, was convicted of third-degree murder in connection with the woman who died -- 20-year-old Claudia Aderotimi, of Great Britain -- and aggravated assault in connection with the woman who was hospitalized.

She was also convicted of two counts of possession of an instrument of crime: the hypodermic needles she used to perform the procedures.  She showed no reaction as the verdicts were read.

Defense Attorney David Rudenstein says Windslowe has always showed remorse.

"She wanted to do a good job. She wanted to help and I absolutely believe that. It's just what she was doing didn't lead to good things."

Windslowe faces a maximum sentence of up to 70 years in prison when she is sentenced, on June 11th.  She remains in custody in the meantime.

During her trial, Windslowe said clients sought her out because of her reputation as "the Michelangelo of buttocks enhancement."  She testified that she thought her procedures were safe, noting that she had performed the injections on herself a number of times.

The trial hit a couple of bumpy spots.  Once, the judge in the case admonished the defendant for wearing inappropriate clothing to court.  Then, as her cross-examination proceeded, Windslowe complained of chest pains and was hospitalized for a couple of days.  And recent snowstorms that hit the Delaware Valley forced the closure of courts for at least one day of the trial.
