Gloucester Township Police Report Uptick In Packages Being Stolen

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – Police in one Camden County town say holiday packages are being stolen from residents' doorsteps.

According to a post on the Gloucester Township Police Department's Facebook page, the department has seen an increase in thefts of packages from homes in the township within the last week.

Police say that the packages are UPS, FedEx and USPS drop-offs that are being stolen directly from doorsteps and mailboxes.

They also say that the victims are being targeted by suspects who possibly follow delivery trucks and steal the packages once the trucks leave the vicinity and are warning residents to be on the lookout for the thieves.

They are also offering tips for protecting yourself from theft, including immediate retrieval of mail and packages after delivery, providing special instructions for a safe/hidden place to drop off those packages and requesting that your packages be marked "signature required."
