Giordano Column: Mayor Kenney Establishing His Legacy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The most amazing fact from Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney's defiant insistence that the shooter of Philadelphia Police Officer Harnett was not inspired by ISIS was that even though he was brutally criticized by the national media, the local reaction was mild. Hosts and callers at Talk Radio 1210 were incensed, but the rest of the local media and Philadelphia at large were largely silent.

I was a guest on the Lou Dobbs Show on Friday night and Lou both on air and off went after Kenney . Megyn Kelly lead her show with the shooting and could not believe that Kenney would dismiss the religious influence on the shooter . I felt vindicated because for years I've warned what a menace Kenney was .

Kenney is clearly our Bill DeBlasio. His first official act as mayor was to rescind the change Mayor Nutter had made to his sanctuary city policy. Kenney has tapped into a large chunk of Philadelphia that wants to create its own reality. Part of this reality is to deny the fact that a perverted form of Islamic teaching is being used to fuel those among us that want to kill us.

The guy who came up big to me in all this was new Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross. Ross clearly articulated what the shooter gave as his motive. He looked good and I was impressed . I had been suspect of him because of Kenney's opposition to stop and frisk as a police tactic and then Ross' appointment.

The only real opposition in the short term to Kenney will be representatives who have the power of the purse. My advice is not fund this guy and his big government expansion schemes. In the long term, I don't see businesses and visitors wanting to flock to Philadelphia.
