Folks At Old City Art Gallery Feeling The Power Of Hugs
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Need a hug?
The Liz Afif Gallery in Old City is featuring a performance art piece where people are feeling the love.
It starts off a bit noisy as huggees plop down on an inflatable white love seat and cozy up with hugger Mirabai Galashan. Galashan is a therapist and health-care chaplain who works with hospice and dementia patients. She says she is fulfilling a spiritual vocation:
"In every world religion there is a common theme that asks you to love other people and I feel that in some small way this is a gesture of peace that expresses that."
Some appeared to be more comfortable than others in plain view of people walking by the window of the art gallery at 53 N. 2nd St.
Judy Cummings of Bucks County says she could have stayed all day:
"It felt incredibly comforting and warm like a mother's embrace and being able to hear the heart beat and feeling in sync with Marabi. It just felt incredible."
To experience "The Love Seat" go to the Liz Afif Gallery on Monday from 2-5 p.m. or on Sunday, August 18th from 2-5 p.m.
