First Litter Of Puppies Born Using IVF
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's being called a scientific breakthrough for pets.
For the first time, a litter of puppies have been born using In vitro fertilization.
It has been around for humans since the 1970s.
Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine reports that a dog fertilized with 19 embryos gave birth to seven healthy puppies.
Two puppies are from a Beagle mother and a Cocker Spaniel father.
The other five are the offspring of two pairs of Beagle fathers and mothers.
Researchers also hope to help dogs susceptible to cancers, by preventing the disease before it even starts.
