First-Ever Philadelphia Science Festival Set For Spring
PHILADELPHIA (KYW NEWSRADIO 1060) - The Franklin Institute has announced Philadelphia's first science festival will be held for two weeks next spring.
KYW's Karin Phillips reports the first-ever Philadelphia Science Festival will be held April 15th-28th.
Hundreds of mostly free events will be held throughout the city, all designed to get people to understand the importance of science in our everyday lives.
Franklin Institute president and CEO Dennis Wint:
"There will be a science carnival that will be on the Parkway as the launch event. There will be science in the neighborhoods, where we will go into libraries and community centers. And then there will be the science forums, where there will be lectures and symposiums and meetings with scientists."
Wint said the events will be designed to make science interesting, relevant, and fun to everyone:
"But a lot of it is going to be impromptu. You might turn the corner and see [astronomer] Derrick Pitts standing at a corner with his telescopes in the evening, looking at the stars. So it's going to be a lot of fun."
