One Dead, Two Critical After Gunfight Erupts In North Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a gun battle in the streets of North Philadelphia ended with one man dead and two others wounded.
It happened just before 6 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of West Wishart Street in the city's Fairhill section.
Authorities say gunfight erupted and 20 shots were fired from at least two semiautomatic weapons, including an assault rifle.
Police say a 47-year-old man was shot in the groin and buttocks. He was taken to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A 17-year-old male was shot in the face and a third man in his 20's was shot once in the back of the head. Both men were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police the man in his 20's was wearing a bulletproof vest and was carrying a handgun that was recovered.
Authorities say the intersection where the shooting occurred in known for street level drug sales.
Police say one of the shooters was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a gray cap. He was last seen fleeing on foot on Allegheny Avenue.
Investigators were looking at surveillance video to help track down the suspect.
