2 Planes With Problems Make Safe Landings At Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Two planes with problems made safe landings at Philadelphia International Airport Friday morning.

Chopper 3 was over the scene of the airport on the 8000 block of Essington Avenue.

A commuter flight from Richmond, Virginia landed with smoke in the cockpit. One person was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Meanwhile, a second plane alerted the airport its landing gear was not working, but it too was brought in safely.

There were no injuries on the second plane.

The FAA temporarily issued a ground stop at the airport, but it has since been lifted.

They released the following statement on the ground stop:

'The Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating two emergency landings at Philadelphia International Airport that occurred shortly after 8 am today. Republic Airlines 4518, an Embraer E170 aircraft landed on Runway 9 Right after reporting steering problems. Piedmont Airlines 4801, an Embraer E145 aircraft reported smoke in the cockpit and cabin. Passengers evacuated the aircraft on Runway 9 Left via slides. The airport advises that Runway 9 Right reopened as of 8:54 am and Runway 9Left reopened as of 9:17 am.
