Expert Offers Safe Dating Tips

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Date rape has been in the news for decades. On Sunday, a speaker at Neumann University is giving college students tips on dating safely, and appropriately.

Mike Domitrz was 19 when his sister was raped. He says that event changed his life, and for the last 20-years, his mission has become educating others about the power of verbal consent.

Domitrz goes cross-country speaking to audiences at high schools, colleges and military bases on what is acceptable:

"Everybody over the years has always been told what not to do, and what we do is come and say 'how to' the right way, and if you do things the right way, then this doesn't happen," he said.

Domitrz talks about how consent is obtained in intimacy, how to intervene when someone tries to use alcohol to gain consent and how to support sexual assault survivors.

He says he'll speak to some 30,000 people between now and November on safe dating.
