EXCLUSIVE: Local Woman Searching For Owner Of Wedding Ring She Found In Parking Lot

By Matt Rivers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Many people would rank their wedding ring among their most prized possessions.

So when a wedding band turned up in a parking lot, a local woman did her best to get it back where it belongs.

She turned to CBS 3 Eyewitness News for help.

The gold glint caught her eye -- a ring, lying on the pavement in front of the Target along Route 1, south of Woodhaven Road. So Diane Dietz picked it up.

"I looked and at first I didn't notice it had an inscription," said Dietz.

But a closer inspection showed it did, two sets of initials, MRS and JRS, and a specific date in 1955.

Diane Dietz thought one thing.

"It looks like my father's wedding band."

But he still had his so that meant someone out there had lost theirs, just a few months ahead of what would be a 60th wedding anniversary. Worse still, Diane found the ring on Valentine's Day.

"I felt terrible. Sixty years is a long time to have something on your finger only to lose it? I'd be very upset about that," said Dietz.

So she did what a good person would, she tried to find the man to whom it belonged.

"I went on Facebook, I went on, I called Target and reported it to them, I put it on Craisglist."

But she got nowhere.

"Nothing, everybody just kept saying how bad they felt."

So she called Eyewitness News.

"I watch Channel 3 and said let's give it a shot. Worst you could say is no, but maybe you'd get lucky."

And we tried to take it a step further, on the off chance that this couple got their marriage license in Philadelphia. So we thought we'd check city records to figure out who they are. But officials tell CBS 3 Eyewitness News without at least one last name, it's nearly impossible to figure out who this couple is.

If you know anything about the rightful owner of this ring, let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
