By Tim Jimenez And Jericka Duncan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Two police officers in New Castle County, Delaware ran into an apartment fire to save a mother and her young daughter Friday night.

The fire was reported at the Silverbrook Apartments in the town of Elsmere.

Firefighters responded around 9 p.m. but two police officers were already there. Authorities say they went in to rescue a 39-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter in a rear bedroom.

The victims were taken to Christiana Hospital then Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Family members identified the victims as mother and daughter Nicole and Kiana Roberts.

The responding police officers were also treated at Christiana for smoke inhalation and then released. The Elsmere Fire Company reports one of their firefighters suffering only a minor injury.

After a Fire Marshal Investigation, authorities say the blaze started in the living room; they weren't too specific but say smoking materials were thrown away. Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office stated in a press release the fire was accidental.

Authorities say there were $50,000 dollars in damages.
