Ed Rendell Splits With Wife Of Nearly 40 Years

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - In an email sent to friends on Monday, former Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell announced that he and his wife, U.S. District Court Judge Marjorie Rendell, will be living separately now that they have left the governor's mansion.

Sources say the split is friendly. Rendell, 67, and Midge, 64, celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in July of 2010. However, the two have decided to live the next phase of their lives separately.

They say that this was a difficult decision, but they've decided to go this route. They indicate they will remain friends and they will also remain active in the communities — sometimes appearing places together, sometimes separately.

In that regard, the email tells friends not to hesitate to invite them both to social events.

Rendell, the 45th governor of Pennsylvania, was succeeded by Republican Tom Corbett.
