Eagles: Gruden Not Replacing Reid

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With rumors swirling rampantly, the Philadelphia Eagles moved quickly Monday to dismiss any talk that coach Andy Reid would be replaced by Jon Gruden.

Internet sites and social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, were abuzz that Gruden was in Philadelphia. Some even speculated that Gruden would be replacing Reid.

However, a statement from the Eagles quickly quashed the rumors.

"Early this morning we have received several inquiries regarding the rumors regarding Andy Reid and Jon Gruden. This was simply a rumor and there is no basis to it at all. It is simply not true."

The rumors may have started with a Facebook posting by former Eagles running back Kyle Eckel.

Eckel was on Sportsradio 610 WIP Monday and told Glen Macnow and Anthony Gargano that he wrote something along the lines that Gruden was in Philly and his guess was that "he was not there to be part of the Flyers coaching staff."

Eckel said he later removed the Facebook posting, but not before the rumor spread all over the internet.

Gruden, currently an analyst with ESPN, coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a win in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Reid is under contract with the Eagles until 2013.
