Eagles 2014 Schedule Breakdown
By Joseph Santoliquito
Philadelphia, PA (CBS) — It was like Christmas in April for Eagles and NFL fans. And it was rather easy as to what everyone was narrowing their eyes on and that's the Washington Redskins and Eagles' erstwhile receiver DeSean Jackson.
The NFL released the schedule Wednesday night showing the Eagles hosting Jackson and the Redskins on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 PM on FOX, and traveling to Washington for a rare Saturday, Dec. 20 game at 4:30 PM, which will be picked up by either CBS or the NFL Network.
After two years in the TV nether world, the Eagles will be a marquee team in 2014, making six national TV appearances (Sept. 15 at Colts; Oct. 12 Giants at Eagles; Nov. 10 Panthers at Eagles; Nov. 27 Eagles at Cowboys; Dec. 14, Cowboys at Eagles; Dec. 20 at Redskins).
The schedule also bears out what will be a brutal five game run to finish the season, closing with Dallas (Nov. 27), Seattle (Dec. 7), Dallas again (Dec. 14), Washington (Dec. 20) and the Giants at home (Dec. 28).
"We are all looking forward to this season and getting the schedule finalized today makes it all the more exciting for all of us and the fans. We have six scheduled nationally televised games this season and of those, two are on Sunday night and two are on Monday night. And for the sixth time in franchise history the Eagles will be playing on Thanksgiving – this time in Dallas. We even finish the season with three NFC East rivals in a row," said Jeffrey Lurie Chairman/CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles. "I can't wait."
On the Eagles' home 2014 docket, five had records below .500 (Redskins, Giants, Jaguars, Titans and Rams). The eight teams the Eagles will face at Lincoln Financial Field had a .476 winning percentage (61-67).
Of the Eagles' road opponents, only three had losing records, two within the division (Redskins and Giants) and the 2-14 Houston Texans. The Eagles road opponents had a .480 winning percentage. Take out the Redskins, Giants and Texans, which will be much improved, the other five road opponents (Cowboys, Cardinals, Packers, Colts and 49ers) were a combined 49-30-1, which translates into a .618 winning percentage.
Overall, the 13 teams the Eagles will play in 2014 had a winning percentage of .502 (104-103-1).
Last year's 10-6 record and NFC East Division title was partially built on six teams that had losing records (Redskins, Giants, Raiders, Lions, Vikings and Buccaneers) and a cumulative .468 winning percentage (97-109-2).
