DNC Delegates To Get A Taste Of The Philly Sound Before The Gavel Falls

By KYW's David Madden

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) Delegates are arriving for next week's Democratic National Convention here. And Sunday Night, plans are to give them a little home town flavor.

And we're not talking cheesesteaks.

Congressman Bob Brady came up with the idea, and asked hall of fame DJ Jerry Blavat to set up an evening's entertainment with a unique local flavor. The Geator's lineup?

"We've got Bobby Rydell who, as you know, is a legend in Philadelphia," Blavat told KYW Newsradio. "We've got the Trammps who represent that Disco sound from Philadelphia and from Jersey, we've got the Duprees."

They'll all be backed up by a full orchestra. The event is set at the Sugarhouse casino and, sorry, it's not open to the public. But if you've been to a Blavat show at the Kimmel Center, you've got a good idea about what to expect.

Now, I know what some of you are asking. How do you get an out of towner to appreciate the Philly Sound? That's easy.

"You could have been from California. You could have been from Wyoming. You could have been from Arkansas," Blavat said. "Music is the universal language."

After all...that's how Blavat's made his living for more than half a century...and not just around here.
