2 killed in head-on crash involving stolen vehicle with juveniles in Mays Landing, New Jersey, officials say
Two people were killed in a head-on crash involving a stolen vehicle in Mays Landing, New Jersey, Saturday morning.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. in the area of Route 50 and Third Street.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, a stolen vehicle crashed head-on into another vehicle, killing the driver and passenger, identified as Egg Harbor Township residents Robert Barr Jr., 54, and 67-year-old Alice Stilwell.
Authorities said 18-year-old Nayshaun Brown and three juveniles in the stolen vehicle have been charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree joyriding and other related charges.
Brown is the only one charged with first-degree employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.
Brown is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Two of the juveniles remain in custody, while another was released by a Superior Court judge Sunday morning.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey Attorney General's Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department.
The AG's office has not released details about the police's involvement but, in a statement, said in part that state law "requires the attorney general's office to conduct investigations of a person's death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer's official capacity."
