By David Madden

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- Camden County health officials have confirmed that a bat discovered in an empty room of a Cherry Hill, NJ residence last week has tested positive for rabies.

The bat was retrieved by township animal control officers and tests were conducted in a New Jersey state lab in Trenton.

Those results were sent to the county today.

Residents of the home were checked for possible rabies exposure by their family doctor as a precaution. No problems were detected.
