Council Likely Won't Tackle DROP This Year
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's clear now that Philadelphia City Council will not tackle the thorny issue of the much-reviled DROP pension perk until the new year.
City Council President Anna Verna says delays in a consultant's report on the lump sum DROP pension have been frustrating.
Verna says, "We were supposed to have received it by the end of this week. However, now we're being told it could possibly be sometime in mid-December."
That means there's only a slim chance that Council will hold a hearing on the issue before year's end. And there's even less of a chance that the lawmakers would render a vote on the mayor's plan to eliminate DROP.
Verna wishes this had moved along faster, "I feel that it's been an elephant on everybody's back, and I'm really tired of carrying it. I really am."
Mayor Nutter says DROP is a costly pension perk that the city can no longer afford.
