Cops: Man Charged After 3-Year-Old Found Wandering Streets Shoeless In Del.

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Police say a 21-year-old man was arrested after residents found a child he was supposed to be babysitting wandering around the neighborhood shoeless.

Authorities say around 6 p.m. on May 31, officers responded to the unit block of Shetland Way in New Castle for a report of a child wandering the neighborhood.

Police contacted residents who said they found the three-year-old walking on Edinburgh Drive without any shoes.

Officers say the toddler pointed to a home on the 600 block of Helmsdale Circle and said a relative had fallen asleep on the couch.

Police eventually made contact with the 21-year-old man who said he could not find the child he was babysitting.

Within the residence, officers say they found drug paraphernalia and .32 grams of marijuana.

Authorities say the child was eventually turned over to her grandmother.

Police say the man was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Authorities say the man was arraigned and released on $2,000 unsecured bail and issued a no contact order.
