HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - It appears a ruling in the Montgomery County gay marriage case is at least a few weeks off.
The Corbett Administration has sued the Montgomery County Register of Wills, saying that he is issuing marriage licenses to gay couples in defiance of state law. Commonwealth Court has granted the administration's motion for expedited consideration of the case – in part.
The Court has set August 12th as the deadline for the administration to file a brief in support of its suit, and the following Monday August 19th is the date by which the county must file its brief in response.
After briefs are filed, the court says it will schedule arguments on an expedited basis. A court spokesman says a judge will be assigned to the case after the briefs are filed, as well.
