City Revives PhillyStat Meetings, Allowing Public To Track Progress In City Hall
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Nutter Administration today revives a dormant series of meetings known as "PhillyStat," and the public is invited to watch.
Mayor Nutter's original managing director, Camille Barnett, created PhillyStat as a way to hold department heads accountable for tracking problems and complaints and dealing with them. Her successor, Rich Negrin, put Phillystat on hold and retooled the idea.
Starting today, it's back, and broadcast on the city's cable television station, "In terms of being able to see your government at work: the data that's collected, how we're doing from a performance standpoint, you're going to see it live on television," Negrin says.
He promises it will be more useful to the average citizen, "You'll be able to monitor -- what are the key innovations going on inside of departments, and track their progress. And that includes areas where we have challenges and need to improve."
Negrin says, unlike the original incarnation of PhillyStat, the meetings now will be of two types: one focused on broad goals, the other on day-to-day operations.
