CHOP Patients Get All Dolled Up For Prom
By Mark Abrams
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's the sixth annual patient prom event put on by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with help from the Joshua Kahan Fund.
Jeff Kahan started it in memory of his son, who died of leukemia.
"We give every girl a dress, we give every boy a suit. It's free, it's theirs to keep. They walk down a red carpet and they walk into a cafeteria that's transformed into a ballroom."
Jessica Stout, a child life specialist at CHOP, says there's more.
"We have local salons and stylists that come in and do their hair, do their makeup, kind of pick out those accessories so that they have all of that confidence in themselves to really come down to the event."
Dre Holle, an 11-year-old from upstate New York has been at CHOP for eight days and is excited to be attending her first prom.
"They're painting my nails," said Holle, who's getting all dolled up with purple nails for her big night.
Just under a hundred patients and their families are taking part in the event.
