Camden County Organization Looks To Pair Senior Animals With Senior Citizens

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – Numerous studies have shown the benefits of owning a pet late in life, and now, a Camden County animal shelter is helping senior pets and senior people pair up.

The Animal Alliance of Camden County says it will launch a new pet adoption program called "Seniors for Seniors." The initiative will provide free adoptions of senior pets for qualifying senior citizens.

The cats and dogs selected for the program are mostly over seven years old and will be paired with eligible seniors 60 and older.

"Senior citizens are able to enjoy the many benefits of pet ownership with the adoption fee waived," said Freeholder Michelle A. Gentek, liaison to the Camden County Animal Shelter, in a release. "In the process, we help save more shelter dogs and cats, currently living their lives within animal shelters."

The program launches on April 22nd and four area shelters:
